Three Wee Hints

If you are attempting to spruce up your home, try these three proven tricks offered to me by an interior decorator:

* Aim for three pints of light. An example is an overhead fixture and two table lamps. “The eye travels to light first,” says Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan of apartment therapy.com. “Any space that’s in a shadow is a space you don’t have.”

* Space out artwork. Start at the floor and measure 57 inches up the wall. The centre of your art or photo should hit that mark. Fifty-seven inches is roughly eye height for most people, so this opens up more space above the work, making the room seem taller.

* Hang a mirror. The larger, the better. Position the mirror across from an entryway or window so it reflects the natural light.
