Be Ruthless

There’s a clutter epidemic in North America. Items pile up in our homes as we tell ourselves, “I might need that one day.”

Peter Walsh, a home-organization expert featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, has developed some clever tricks for identifying those belongings that you can definitely do without.

Cutlery: Place cutlery and utensils in a cardboard box. After you use an item, put it back into the drawer. Then after a month, sell or give away any item left in the box.

Recipes: Each time you use a recipe from a cook-book, place a sticky note next to it. AFter about a year, get rid of the books that don’t have stickies.

Clothes: Place clothes on hangers, then face all the hangers in the same direction. Once you wear an item then return it to the closet, place it on a hanger facing the opposite direction. After six months, send untouched items to charity.
